Saving for Ramadan and Eid: a 12-week plan

Eid shopping, salami and Ramadan groceries arrive in one month, but the dates are known months ahead. A 12-week plan with one goal, a weekly step and a grocery budget.

When Ramadan and Eid are expected

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February, with Eid ul-Fitr expected around 9–10 March. The dates depend on the moon sighting, but they're close enough to plan for: from mid-December, Eid is about 12 weeks away.

All dates are expected dates. Amounts are a sample plan, not a recommendation.

Step 1: list what Eid costs you

Nadia lists the costs that usually arrive together in the last week of Ramadan:

CostAmount
Clothes & shopping৳10,000
Salami৳5,000
Gifts & Eid food৳5,000
Total৳20,000

Step 2: one goal, small weekly steps

She creates a goal, "Eid shopping & salami", for ৳20,000 by 5 March — a few days before Eid, so shopping isn't a last-minute rush. Starting on 17 December, that's 11 weeks: about ৳1,800 a week.

Step 3: a budget for Ramadan groceries

Iftar and sehri shopping is spent month by month, so it fits a budget better than a goal. Nadia sets a "Ramadan groceries" cap of ৳12,000 for February and March now, and will adjust it once Ramadan starts. Budgets turn coral as she gets close, which is a gentle nudge during a busy month.

Travelling home for Eid?

Bus and train tickets get harder to find close to Eid. Nadia already has an "Eid trip" goal (৳28,000 of ৳35,000 by 2027-03-15); keeping it separate from shopping means one doesn't quietly eat the other.

Eid, without the scramble.

FAQ

When is Ramadan 2027 expected to start?

Ramadan is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, with Eid ul-Fitr expected around 9–10 March. The exact dates depend on the moon sighting.

How much should I save each week for Eid?

Divide your Eid total by the weeks you have left. In the example, ৳20,000 over 11 weeks is about ৳1,800 a week.

Should Ramadan groceries be a goal or a budget?

A budget. Groceries are spent month by month, so a monthly cap for February and March works better than a savings goal.
